When My Heart is Overwhelmed

I have faced many battles in my life and never felt afraid,
Let it be a Goliath and I will face him head to head.
Victory comes, and the multitudes cheer,
A name is given, “This man is without fear.”

I try and live up to people’s expectations,
I appear calm with no visible agitation.
But there are times when my heart does fear,
Sometimes I cannot feel that God is near.

In such times I feel so tired and overwhelmed,
I wonder if my fear is noticed by everyone in the realm.
I sometimes feel that I am at the end of the earth,
There is within my heart, no feeling, no joy, no mirth.

My soul tells me to lift up my voice and cry out to the Lord,
He will hear me and heal my heart’s discord.
“Hear my prayer, O God, attend to my prayer.”
I struggle in my spirit to be assured that You are there.

I will remember how You have been my Shelter all these years,
And tenderly, You have always dried away my copious tears.
You will once again prepare Your lovingkindness just for me,
You will take away my fears and grant me serenity.
