O God, You Are My God

What should I do when I am unable to sleep at night?
Shall I count sheep until I am fit to be tied?
“I meditate on You in the night watches” – this is the best way,
There are lessons we need to learn while sleep is held at bay.

Instead of tossing and turning that only adds frustration,
Is it not wiser to learn how to practice quiet meditation?
Whatever the things that rob us of our sleep,
Let all be brought to God for Him to keep.

Let the morning begin with a loving cry to the Lord,
Say with a heart of faith, “O God, You are my God!”
I will begin this day with thoughts of Your love,
I will praise You for the protection You give from above.

You spread Your wings over us with tender loving care,
You will protect us from every deadly snare.
The soul must determine to follow after the Lord,
This is surely how we may rejoice in our great God.
