There are times when the soul is unable to be comforted,
And prayers seem weak and the heart feels alone and isolated.
The nights do not bring respite and sleep is impossible to find,
The soul turns to complaining but soon finds itself in a bind.
Hope may well rest on calling to remembrance a song in the night,
It may be an ancient song that tells of God’s great power and might.
The soul recognizes that it helps to set aside time to meditate,
The spirit finds renewed hope and strength when, to God, it relates.
The doubts may come thick and fast in the forms of searing questions,
God is unperturbed by the flurry that comes from deep frustration.
The mighty works of God point clearly to His Presence so near,
His power has not abated nor His care for His children dear.
The songs in the night that God has given are important to the soul,
They will bring much-needed renewal that can make a person bold.
God will always remember the promises that He has graciously given,
His mercy and His lovingkindness will keep us till we reach heaven.
