Troubles arise and negative thoughts bring hurt to the soul,
Dark doubts arise and I wonder if God can make me whole.
Many declare that there is no real help from God at all,
When one has fallen badly, he can never again walk tall.
My soul shudders as these thoughts like arrows darken the sky,
What shall I do but cry out to God and believe He is nigh!
“O God, You are a shield for me…” These words in prayer will ascend,
God has been my glory in the past, and He will be with me to the end.
He will be the One who will lift up my head so that I can pray,
He will hear my prayer and send help without much delay.
With this thought my heart and mind find rest in the Lord,
I will lie down and sleep, sure that His protection He will accord.
I awoke and I find that my heart is at peace and my mind is clear,
God has sustained me throughout the night, I need never fear.
I will now not be afraid of the negative thoughts that threaten my soul,
Salvation and blessings come from God and He will truly make me whole.
