When feelings of hopelessness threaten,
And faith in God is all but forgotten;
Feelings of despair cause the soul to weep
The heart cannot believe God is able the soul to keep.
The soul becomes listless, dry and thirsty,
It also begins to be forlorn and weary;
No ray of light in sight, the soul despairs
Until a sliver of hope emerges and gently repairs.
“Hope in God,” a still small voice whispers in a refrain
The soul is stirred and hope is born again;
There is no need to feel cast down, woebegone
Hope banishes all dark feelings of despair to be gone!
“Hope in God,” the refreshed soul cries out,
There is no need to feel discouraged throughout.
There is yet hope that I will sing again,
Yes, the gladsome “Hope in God” refrain.
