“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,”
These are comforting words for those drawing their last breath.
They suddenly take on new meaning as I battle depression,
I am gripped by fear; I am unable to live up to life’s expectations.
I will recall that the Lord has been my Shepherd all through my life,
He has met all my needs, and aided me in every conflict and strife.
He has led me to green pastures so that I was wonderfully fed,
Beside the still waters, amidst many problems, I was gloriously led.
I will battle the darkness of the valley that affects my soul,
I will remember that the Shepherd can restore and make me whole.
He will lead me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake,
This is my hope amidst darkness, His glorious name is at stake.
Evil sends fear to frighten me and my heart is troubled indeed,
But I shall remember that my Shepherd is with me in my hour of need.
His presence is with me, and He makes that well known,
His rod and His staff bring comfort even though I moan.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
I shall dwell on how the Lord has blessed amidst so much strife.
He has also given me a wonderful promise that brings so much cheer,
I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever, with my Shepherd so dear.
